Bright Kalenge an alumnus of Brighter Future Zambia’s sponsorship programme. He is 22 years old and currently attending agricultural college in Lusaka.
“I was brought up in Monze. I lived here with my Mother and my brothers and sisters.
My father died when my twin brother and I were only babies. Life was difficult, there were challenges in going to school as the fees were high and there was no one to help. I had two brothers and two sisters but two of them died before finishing school. My twin brother Brian and I are the youngest.
I used to worry a lot. I never thought that I would be able to finish school but then my mother told me that they had found a sponsor for me and Brian. I was very happy. In Zambia, if you don’t complete school you can’t make it. You can’t build a future for yourself or look after your family.
I completed school at Monze Secondary. I was good at school and did well, passing my exams in division one. I am now at Agricultural college studying animal sciences. It is my dream to become a vet so that I can support myself and look after my family.”
