“We are building a community here in the UK to work alongside the community in Zambia to fight poverty and create change” – Co-founder and trustee, Katie Lavender
Brighter Futures Zambia is a small charity that makes a big difference to orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia. Our mission is to help them complete their education and live happier, healthier and safer lives.
Brighter Futures Zambia work in partnership with Buntolo OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children), a Zambian community-based organisation in Monze District in the Southern Province of Zambia. This area was devastated by the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Buntolo was set up in 2001 to respond to the increasing number of children who were being orphaned. It offers care for children in their own homes so that they are able to stay in their own community. Some of the children live with a surviving parent but many of the carers are grandmothers.
Everyone involved with Brighter Futures Zambia – both in the UK and in Zambia – are volunteers. Together we aim to fight poverty and offer some of the most vulnerable children the chance of a better future.
